Introduction
Back in 2004, Cressi Sub reached out to me to get my thoughts on the backplate used in their buoyancy compensators. I mentioned that while the backplate was functional, it was overly heavy and cumbersome for the style of jackets they were manufacturing at the time. My feedback highlighted the need for a design that offered the same level of support but with a lighter and more streamlined approach to better suit the products they were developing.
Story
Recognizing the necessity to enhance the product by making it lighter and more practical while also reducing costs (especially since the current model was cumbersome, being assembled from three pieces with screws), he approached me with a request. He wanted me to design a new version that would be inspired by a competitor’s product, aiming to streamline its functionality and improve overall efficiency.
Conclusion
The final design was exceptionally lightweight, featuring elegant, flowing lines that added to its aesthetic appeal. It was engineered to be versatile, making it suitable for both single-tank and double-tank configurations, thereby meeting a variety of needs and preferences for different diving conditions.
