The year was 2003
Best Divers in 2003 approached me with a unique request to design some exceptionally attractive weight belt buckles. The most iconic animals that could be represented in the shapes of a buckle lever were the shark and the whale, both of which hold significant meaning in the diving community. The only potential issue that arose was related to safety, as these designs could potentially get caught on something underwater. By implementing specific radii, bevels, and bends into the design, we were able to create a product that was both safe and aesthetically pleasing. To this day, a large number of these buckles have been sold, and they continue to be highly popular and in demand among divers.
Story
Above, you can observe the first sketches that laid the groundwork for their creation. These preliminary drawings offered a glimpse into the initial design process. Below, you will find additional illustrations that defined the overall dimensions and provided a clearer vision of the final appearance, showing the progression from concept to a more concrete representation.
3D design
Subsequently, we transitioned to the 3D drawing phase, which offered a more accurate and detailed representation of the product. This visual approach allowed us to showcase the product in a much clearer and more comprehensive manner. The product itself was quite simple in design, so no elaborate rendering techniques were required to convey its features effectively. The straightforward nature of the product meant that even with basic 3D modeling, the essential elements and functionalities were clearly communicated.
